Animal Shed (Ground Floor) In the former animal shed there is an area for large animals and an area for smaller livestock. On the right, at the back you can see the wooden feeding troughs. The shed is accessible from the farmhouse ground floor hallway and also from the field. Tools for use in the field, forest and meadow, a selection of ploughs, wooden transport sledges, wooden harrows, animal traps etc. were all constructed by the farmer, using his own selection of tools. Many of the objects displayed here have already been mentioned on the tour. One tool of note is the “pipe drill”, next to the entrance. The straightest tree trunks were selected and then drilled hollow using this tool to make water pipes, which often covered quite considerable distan- ces. On the wall which connects to the living quarters is another example of the “Zierschrot”, the decorative beam joint that we saw on the exterior wall by the front door. 28
