Master Bedroom The master bedroom was where the farmer and his wife and the small children slept. The beautiful double bed is only 170cm long, considerab- ly shorter than a typical bed today. People were generally shorter and they also slept in an almost sitting position – one only laid down to die. The painted baroque cupboard with double doors is filled with table and bed linen. The handspun and woven fabric was part of a bride’s dow- ry and therefore increased a woman’s “market value”. The collection shown here was collected and made available by Anna Hechenberger. The painted chest and a second cupboard were used to store clothing. The Lower Inn Valley formal traditional costume, the “Kassettl”, included a small top hat, wedding jewellery, and a shawl. The cot and Moses bas- ket for small children were also found in the master bedroom. 25
