Hallway (First Floor) The large chest at the top of the stairs decorated with a model of a farm- house was used to store grain. You may remember the groove designed to prevent mice from entering the farmhouse. The obligatory farm cat was another preventative measure to ensure that not too much of the grain supply was shared with the mice. The painting of Jesus on the cross came from a local, family chapel. The balcony door was also donated to the museum. The door is deco- rated with a St. Andrew’s cross, an X shaped cross. The name refers to Andrew the Apostle who it is claimed was crucified on such a cross. In the show cabinet next to the male farmhand’s bedroom you can see various articles which were used to treat and care for the health of the animals. The apparatus used in the castration of the animals would pro- bably not comply with today’s standards and regulations! 19
