History A group of people dedicated to the preservation of this fine example of farm life from the previous century repeatedly struggled to find the necessary financial support. In 1971 the Kitzbühel Rotary Club elevated the project “Farmhouse Museum Hinterobernau” to its main Club Project. The farmhouse in Kitzbühel had been kept almost in its original state and was actually still partially habited by a local legend, “Speck Nani“. Although, the farmhouse was in need of some renovation, it provided a near- perfect example of a typical lower Tyrolean farm from the 16th Century. The date carved into the ridge beam is 1559 which is most probably the year the farmhouse was built. The then President of the Rotary Club Mag. Broschek and other museum campaigners such as the well-known dialect poet Herbert Jordan invited professionals to assess the farmhouse Hinterobernau. After receiving support from both local politicians and inhabitants, there was nothing to prevent the project „Hinterobernau“ from being realised. With a combination of grants from public institutions and other financial donations, it was possible to purchase the farmhouse and the surrounding land in 1972. It was at this time that our Association was established. In 1977, after many hours of voluntary input, the museum opened. Over the years, these volunteers have remained true to the cause and their work has been a major contribution in maintaining the substance of the muse- um. Many artifacts have been loaned or donated and often painstakingly restored in order to provide visitors with an accurate impression of farm life in a bygone era. 5
